Over 200 Vehicles Impounded in Buenos Aires, Including Fake Ambulance

In Buenos Aires, at least 200 vehicles, including a fake ambulance found in Constitución, were impounded as part of 633 operations carried out by the Buenos Aires City Ministry of Security at toll booths and city access points. Police sources informed the Noticias Argentinas agency that 165 motorcycles were removed from circulation due to irregularities or lack of documentation and were towed to police impound lots. There were also 154 checkpoints on the 25 de Mayo and Dellepiane highways with motorcycle patrol units, resulting in 46 impoundments, 37 of which were motorcycles. The 182 motorcycle checkpoints were conducted in the Villa 31 neighborhood of Retiro, where 24 units were seized, and the remaining 42 in Carlos Pellegrini and Córdoba in the city center, on Las Heras at 1800 in Recoleta, and on Scalabrini Ortiz at 1300 in Palermo. The rest of the vehicles were cars and vans that violated traffic laws. In one case, a Peugeot Partner with a private ambulance livery was spotted on Salta street at 1400. Its driver, a 68-year-old Bolivian man, claimed to be a doctor and presented an expired credential from over two years ago. Furthermore, the individual told authorities he was an employee of the public emergency service SAME in the Buenos Aires province district of Tres de Febrero, but the public institution consulted denied this claim. Inside the vehicle, a large quantity of medical supplies was found, most of it expired, including 18 ampoules of injectable medication without a prescription, 129 boxes of various medicines, 8 hypodermic needles, saline solution, all expired, and a heat-resistant vest with the inscription SAME PBA. The Flagrancia Este unit verified that the foreigner also did not have a mandatory vehicle inspection (VTV) or insurance, which is why the car was impounded. The rest of the vehicles were cars and vans that did not comply with traffic regulations, while officers from various district police stations in communes 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14, the Patrol Division for Access Control, the Tactical Unit for Pacification of Neighborhood 31-31 Bis, and the corps of Traffic Security Agents participated. The Patrol Division for Access, along with Traffic Security personnel, conducted 297 checks on bridges and entrances to General Paz Avenue, from Puente La Noria to Lugones, covering the neighborhoods of Villa Riachuelo, Villa Lugano, Mataderos, Liniers, Versalles, Villa Real, Villa Devoto, Villa Pueyrredón, Saavedra, and Núñez, in which 88 vehicles were impounded, 62 motorcycles and 26 cars.
